What is a Peer Paddle?

Swan runs two main types of events:

  • Those organised and run by our Training and Development committee and sanctioned by the full Committee – these are led by fully accredited instructors or guides, and follow strict safety procedures.
  • Peer Paddles which are organised among members, and are not led by instructors or guides – when such events are publicised they will include the words Peer Paddle in the event title for clarity.  Here is the definition of such an event as taken from Australian Canoeing’s safety guidelines:

“Peer Activity”: A paddling activity where no instructional or guiding structure exists and it is the responsibility of each member of the group to ensure the suitability of their equipment and themselves for the activity. Peer paddling is supported by Australian Canoeing provided the group members have considered these issues.
