Club Open Day Club President

Following this year’s AGM, our Club was left without a President.

The Committee is pleased to announce that it has received a nomination, which at its September meeting, it voted unanimously to accept. We are pleased to announce that Peter Ewing is our new President. Peter brings a lot of knowledge and history of our Club and we are lucky to have someone of such a high calibre making themselves available.

The Committee joins with the Members to welcome Peter to this important role in our Club, and calls on everyone to support him in his position as our President.

Membership Officer

To date there have been no nominations for the role. Whilst this is a busy position at Membership renewal time, it should be made easier with the assistance of Marion Ewing, who has pledged her continuing support to the Club in a background capacity.

The Committee urges all Members to reconsider their situations, to see if there is any way that they can contribute to this important position on the Committee.

New Website

Australia Canoeing are changing internet providers and their whole website system – this means ours will change too. The good news is that it will be much more flexible to edit and manage.  The bad news is that the conversion to the new system will mean our website will initially look pretty poor and need lots of editing to bring it back to a professional standard and repair missing information.

The new system is based around WordPress, so if anyone with good skills in this software would like to volunteer to help with the new site please contact the President (president@swancanoeclub.org.au).

The future of our Club rests in Your Hands – we survive on volunteers.

Club Security

A number of incidents have been reported recently concerning the security of the club house being compromised in the most basic ways:

  • The upstairs balcony door has been left wide open on at least two occasions, one with the timing clock still running.
  • The boat storage area roller door has been left open, with no one in attendance or on the water in the immediate area.

Should you be paddling more than a few metres away from the club you must close the roller doors, and take your keyfob with you.

The front door does not always automatically lock (eg strong southerly winds), so please give it a check when closing it.

Remember that club member’s belongings, craft and club craft are not insured, whether in the club house or in use!

Members are reminded that they are responsible for the security of our club house and to personally ensure that all doors are closed before vacating the premises.

Membership Renewal

Memberships expire on 30th September so please renew now.

Open Day – 18th October 9am – 12pm

Our annual Open Day is on soon, so if you have friends etc who might be interested in paddling and want to give it a go, please encourage them to come along.

And we need lots of volunteers to assist with this big event – all sorts of jobs, so please contact Gillian Palmer who has agreed to coordinate the day – email palmergillian@hotmail.com.

New Ramp

The new ramp is in and floated up a few times on modest tides.  We need to thank Jo McBride and especially her non-member brother Mark Hannaford of Roam Marine for their input to the design and sourcing the components of the ramp.
