Broke Inlet Weekend
The Swan Canoe Club will be running the annual Broke Inlet weekend from Friday 23rd to Monday
26th January 2015. This is a fun event, well away from “civilisation”, mixing good paddling and social interaction with other Club Members.
Broke Inlet is situated in the glorious South West, about 97 kms from Manjimup on HWY 1, and 25 kms from Walpole. The dirt road access is sign posted and whilst 4×4 vehicle is recommended, the road is suitable for 2 wheel drive.
Participants will travel down on Friday morning and we will leave our vehicles at Camfield and kayak with all our equipment to camp in a remote area on the Inlet. Water levels this year are high, so we have more choice of areas to explore.
A briefing will be held at the launch site on the Friday at 13:15 hours and it is anticipated that the trip will start by 13:30 hours.
This trip is only suitable for sea kayaks as it is necessary for participants to carry all camping equipment, food and water. Whilst this is an inland waterway, the winds can be fresh at times and all participants should be capable of handling their craft in these conditions. It is suggested that participants be able to paddle at a moderate rate.
A briefing meeting will be held at the Club on Wednesday, 14th January at 7:00pm for new participants. The meeting will cover equipment choice, water and food planning, as well as directions. Please contact me for more information.
