Brevis Choate Memorial Family Race – This Sunday, 31st May

Members are encouraged to attend and paddle in this flat water slalom race in memory of our sadly missed member and ex CWA President Brevis Choate – it’s the 10th year since Brevis tragically passed away after a cycling accident. Brevis was member, Shirley Go’s partner and father of junior members and star slalom paddlers Isabella, Alexandria and Jack. No white water skills needed, the race is on flat water. Details here.

Correction – Intro to Kayaking course is this Saturday 30th May (not June as emailed yesterday)

There are places available on this course, so if you are new to the club and need to become familiar with the techniques to get started or require a refresher contact Geoff Emery: gemry13@gmail.com

Annual General Meeting – 16th June (Tuesday) 7pm

The AGM will be on Tuesday 16th June 2015 at 7pm.  Please come along to learn more about how the Club ticks, what has been achieved in the past year, put ideas forward for the future, and consider being more actively engaged by taking on one of the voluntary roles – there are many non-Committee positions, as well as being on the Committee.

We have several important decisions to make at this meeting:

–          Do we complete the approved building plans and extend the balcony – about $50,000

–          Do we encourage stand-up paddlers to become members and allow storage space for SUPs

–          How to commemorate the Club’s 50th birthday in 2016

Treasurer and Membership Officer positions to be vacated

Two very important Club committee roles are becoming vacant at the AGM – our long-time Treasurer Julie Wheelhouse deserves a well-earned rest, and Membership Officer Donna Mak is going away for many months. Our Club will not function without these critical roles being filled so please consider volunteering at the AGM. If tempted, please contact them to find out what each role involves.

Sand and the New Ramp

Kerry and mates have added some sand-bags along the western side of the new ramp to help in two ways:

–          Make the step down off the ramp safer;

–          Reduce the scouring of the sand caused by removing the old ramp. This measure appears to be working well with several centimetres of sand already being re-deposited.
