Christmas Party is on! 16th Dec: novelty paddle at 5:30pm, dinner at 7pm

Somewhat late notice but the Committee decided we will have a Christmas Party this year (having recovered sufficiently from the two 50th events!). There are two parts:

–          An optional novelty paddle at 5:30pm with prizes – more details soon. You could alternatively consider going in the normal Paddle Bash and give Andy a real challenge!;

–          A dinner at 7pm – bring your own food and drink, as we had a couple of years ago.

We hope to see you there!

50th Celebration Afternoon Tea Report and Photos – online now

Our November 50th anniversary events were a great success and lots of photographs and other details have been uploaded for you to view at this web page.

Many thanks again to everyone who made the events happen – you should feel very proud since we have received many positive comments from the invitees.

Annual Awards

At the 50th evening party we announced our annual Club award recipients:

Junior Paddler of the YearAlexandria Choate who represented Australia at the Junior World Slalom Championships in Poland, competed for Australia in New Zealand and Japan, and did very well at last year’s Australian Championships.

Paddler of the Year:  Zlatan Ibrahimbegovic who successfully coached four of the six juniors who made the Australian Junior Slalom Team this year, and also coached an Olympian at Rio.  Despite recovering from shoulder surgery he represented WA at the National Championships and has done so for many years, helping to bring awards back to WA and to our Club.

Club Member of the Year:  Marion Ewing who for over a year coordinated the arrangements for both our 50th events, coordinated all the junior paddling programs, and keeps the backend of our flaky membership database functioning.

New Double Sea Kayak

We have taken delivery of a new Delta 20T double sea kayak at add to our fleet of Club boats – it lives in Aisle C:

Lotterwest Grant for Building Works

We have been granted $53,000 by Lotterywest to help fund the stairwell widening and wheelchair lift, and additional ramps on the southern side of the building – they were particularly impressed by our initiatives to encourage disabled people into paddling.  Thanks for Kerry Hughes who did most of the work for the grant application.  This work and the enhanced balcony area will go ahead when we receive Council approval.

Weeding

Many thanks to the paddlers who have weeded the area to the west of the Clubrooms and along the steps. We hope to revegetate this area with natives next autumn.  There are white garden waste bags in the foyer. We are hoping to remove the weeds all the way back up the hill so if you have a spare half hour after paddling grab a bag and have a go! The early Tuesday paddlers will have another go next Tuesday (6th) from 9am if anyone would like to join us. Town of Mosman Park will take away the weeds when the bags are full. Don’t forget to bring gardening gloves and any tools you like to use.

Boat Hire Officer Appointed

You can now hire boats from the Club again thanks to Janet Stanford volunteering for this job. Please go to our website here for details.
