The guided paddle is suitable for all members, especially for those who are new to the club and paddling on Swan River. Your guide will take you out onto the river, and weather/wind dependent will take the group on a paddle that could include Chidley point, Point Walter, the Sandbar and/ or Freshwater Bay.
Contacting the nominated lead for the paddle is essential, so that they know the numbers and paddle experience of those attending. No RSVP may mean that if you turn up on the day you may not be able to join the group.

As part of Clean Up Australia Day the Swan Canoe Club are having a river clean up.

Join your paddle mates OTW at 8.30am to paddle and pick up rubbish from our river and then join us upstairs at 10.30 for morning tea.

Please register for catering, clean up bags and also if you will need a club boat on the day.

All paddlers in team craft must enter individually.

THE RACE Where: Swan Canoe Club, Johnson Parade, Mosman Park

Check-in: 7:00 – 7:45am Race / Safety Briefing: 8:00am Start (1st Wave): 8:30am

SAFETY We share the Swan River with other traffic and the 12km course requires paddlers to cross the main channel. Paddlers must obey water rules and be confident in their own competency and fitness. Remember hydration, sun protection. PFD mandatory for U16 and recommended for others.

All participants must attend the Race/Safety Briefing at 8am.

COURSES [Link to race map] Start/Finish at Swan Canoe Club jetty.

🔹 12km (turn at Stirling Bridge, North Freo)

🔹 6km (turn at Point Roe red marker)

🔹 3km (turn at Chidley Point red marker)

All turns are anticlockwise. Wave starts from 8:30am. Waves/Classes to be confirmed on race day. Race Director has discretion. Dragon Boats: 6km only PRIZES Cash prizes for fastest male and female single paddlers (12km course):

🥇 1st: $150

🥈 2nd: $100

🥉 3rd: $50

Plus random draw for other prizes. Presentations after the race.

Stroke Improvement Clinic with Amanda Simper and Jocelyn Sisson

Stroke Improvement Clinic for Flatwater Paddling

Join Amanda Simper (Ex Olympic sprint kayaker) and Jocelyn Sisson (Flatwater Instructor in training) to learn how to paddle more efficiently and minimise injury risk.

The clinic will consist of a land based workshop on forward stroke technique, on-water practice including video recording and then a review of the videos.

When: 8am -12pm Saturday 16 March 2024

Who: Swan Canoe Club members only. Intermediate to advanced paddlers who would like to improve their forward stroke

Craft: Surf ski or kayak with a rudder. Can use a club boat if available.

Cost: $50

Registrations close: Saturday 9 March or when course is filled

Location: Swan Canoe Club, Johnson Parade, Mosman Park, 6012

Duration: approximately 4 hours

THE GREATEST ADVENTURE – exploring the Grand Canyon – Presentation Night by Andrew Griffiths

Andrew Griffiths first joined the Swan Canoe Club in 1968, he is a past president with years of experience running big rivers and guiding on the Colorado.

Listen to Andrew talk about his experience leading trips along the complete 450km of the river for 18 + days (either in a kayak or in a raft with day hikes on shore.) He describes the trip as “floating through one of natures’ greatest miracles which has a profound effect on the soul.”  His wife Christine describes it as ‘life changing.’ Andrew will describe not only his experiences but also how you can arrange to go on one of these amazing wilderness experiences.

City Lights Evening Paddle with Jocelyn

City Lights Paddle

When: 5:30pm Saturday 13 April 2024

What: The paddle will start on the South Perth foreshore at sunset. We will then paddle an 11km circuit taking in the sights and lights of Elizabeth Quay, Claisebrook Cove, Optus Stadium and the Matagarup Bridge. The paddle will be followed by a BYO picnic on the grass overlooking the city.

Who: Due to the inherent risks of paddling at night paddlers must be of an intermediate level and be able to paddle 11 km continuously.
