SOCIAL UPDATE

Paddle Bash and Barbeque, May 12th SCC, come and be social!
We want to invite everyone to Paddle Bash with barbeque from 6pm (if you are racing/paddling). The social committee are providing a 5 dollar barbeque for this evening- meat and salad, BYO drinks please. On this occasion Colin Thorpe will be attending with some potential new members from UWA. So, we want to impress them and all our new members with our friendly atmosphere, great facilities and fun paddling nights! Easy!

So, whether you are paddling or not, try and get down to the club and familiarise yourself with the Friday Paddle Bash scene. We will soon be arranging some guided night paddles from the club on 3rd Friday of the month ,so keep checking your e-mail/ SCC web-site and the notice board.

Point Walter
Don't forget Point Walter if you want to meet paddlers, this is getting more popular every Saturday, from 10am at Walters Cafe, see you there for a chat over coffee and muffins or be skinny if you like and just drink peppermint tea!

AGM
Lastly, it's the AGM on Tuesday 16th, 7pm, we are looking forward to seeing you all there, details on web-site, it will be a fun night, find out what we have been up to all year and what's to come! Friday 19 May – Guided Social Paddle

A social paddle is planned for friday 19 May. Suitable for both new and old members. Great chance to meet other members, great chance to have a safe night time paddle.

Try to be at the club by 5.30 pm, briefing at 5.45 pm and on the water at 6.00 pm. You can use a club boat. If using a club boat try to get there early and get it set up for you. You will need footwear and you will need to wear a pfd (can use the clubs – make sure it fits properly). You will also need to have a white light that can be seen from 360 degrees on you or your craft.

The paddle will be followed by a bbq dinner. BYO meat, salads and drink. Come along for a great social night. Contact Ian on ian.garthwaite@iinet.net.au if you are coming along.

WHITE WATER PARK ACTION!!
A campaign promoting calls for registration of interest from the private sector to develop the white water park at Champion Lakes starts on 10 May.
It will be a 6 week national and international campaign managed by Colliers International for the Armadale Redevelopment Authority.

It is offering a 17 hectare lakeside site for a white water park, hotel/conference venue and possibly units. Contact person is Terry Hutchings 08 9261 6647, terry.hutchings@colliers.com

We now have over 7800 registered Friends of the White Water Park. Please get all your friends and family to register as Friends of the White Water Park if they have not already done so. Go to www.whitewaterperth.org.au.

Basic Skills Course

13th May
(2 places left!)

This course will cover instruction in all the basic strokes, including draw strokes, stroke combinations, boat control exercises and rescue techniques. The skills covered in this course are aligned with the Australian Canoeing Award scheme. Units covered are: SRO ORE 001A. SRO ORE 002A. SRO CAN 001A. The course also includes a skills assessment and a proficiency award certificate if you are deemed competent. This course is a must for anyone planning to progress on to white water.

Course Duration: 5 hours
