Avon Support Unit calls for volunteers!

1383

The Avon Descent 2009 is not far away and we need volunteers to help keep the event running smoothly and safely.

The Avon Support Unit organises and trains the rescue squads based at the rapids [we get the best views!]; the recovery teams that pick up the not-so-lucky competitors that run out of paddles/ rudders or propellers; and the sweep boats that work with the rescue teams at various locations and check all the competitors have made it out of the river safely before dark.

As you can see from the information below, there are a huge number of opportunities for you to become involved in – we cater for all types of people, interests and abilities. If you have received this email it is likely you have been involved in a similar event or have a love of water sports – or just like dressing up in neoprene!?!  This really is a great event to be involved in and gain skills that may be of use to you in your other outdoor pursuits.

I have included the next 2 events on the Training Timetable – so please come along and see what we are all about and where you can have some serious fun.

SRT Theory – 6th May, 2009
Bell’s Training – 17th May, 2009

Or for more information contact  Anthony Dean Manager Avon Support Unit – Northam’s Avon Descent Association Email: a.c.dean@bigpond.net.au

We understand that not everyone can make every training session – we will allocate you to a task that you are capable of.

Once again, it would be great to see you involved in this unique and world class white-water event
