Our Christmas Party in early December was a great success, and Julia Davies needs a huge thanks for the massive effort in getting it together, as well as all the other helpers setting up, serving, and cleaning up.
We made the following awards:
Club Member of the Year: Julie Wheelhouse – did four hard years as Club Treasurer during the building project paying out over $500,000 – much more work than is normally required;
Paddler of the Year: Russel French – a Club member for about two years and only started paddling just before joining the club. Since then he has taken part in a number of races including the Avon Descent, Rod Fry, Paddle Challenge and the John Sims. Russ trains regularly from the Club and has had some impressive results, first in his class at this year’s Rod Fry race.
Junior Member of the Year: Demelza Wall who has had a wonderful year – Junior National team competed at World Championships – 3rd placed in C1 teams 2nd placed K2 Mixed team in Avon Descent. 20th in whole field (4th placed K2) Fastest ever mixed K2 U18 team (well only one ever on record); Completed slalom coaching qualification and helps with junior coaching; Great representative of Swan Canoe Club at other events, good role model.
