SERPENTINE RIVER – MANDURAH LAKES PADDLE – Sunday 17th October 2021.
This interesting 20km paddle, usually starts in the Serpentine River near Karnup Road and goes south, downriver through Kerulup Pool and into the Mandurah Lakes. We weave through paperbark trees and into open water at Lake Amarillo, Guanarnup Pool and Yalbanberup Pool. At a minimum water level of 0.3m (Dog Hill Station on Serpentine) and with light winds, this paddle takes about 5 hours for the average paddler.
Usually we stop for lunch and a leg stretch on a small island along the way. We also need to do a car shuffle, so as to have vehicles waiting at the end of the paddle to return boats and paddlers back to the start and this can add another hour or so to the paddle time.
If the water level is low, we can start at our end point and paddle up to the island for lunch and then return to the start, which means we avoid the car shuffle.
The trip may include wildlife such as stampeding cows and the odd kangaroo or fox at no extra cost.
If you’re interested and can happily paddle 20km, then contact Geoff Emery

Little Island is a small sand and limestone island situated in a marine sanctuary approx. 3km off the coast of Hillary’s in Perth’s northern suburbs.
This is a club trip for members with sit-in type sea kayaks, who have successfully completed a club Intro to paddling a sea kayak course or who have equivalent skills.
Starting at the Hillary’s marina we will kayak out to the island and hopefully see some sea lions. Beaching kayaks on the island is prohibited.
We will then head north towards Whitford Rock, paddle around the rock towards Pinnaroo Point and then head south back to the marina. Total distance approx. 10km.
As we will be paddling more than 400m from shore please make sure you have the correct safety equipment. For info on the paddle craft safety equipment requirements click on the link. www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/marine/MAC-B-PaddleSafe.pdf
