Recent Events

19 March 06 – Rod Fry Race

Come and race or help out as a volunteer. Many volunteers also wanted for this one. To volunteer contact Paul Smith on 0419 191 166.

25-26 March 06 – Ravenswood Weekend

An excellent weekend is planned for Ravenswood. Camping on the river, two great paddles. Don't miss this one.
Ravenswood is on the Murray River about 1.5 hours drive south of Perth midway between Pinjarra and Mandurah. You can come and stay the weekend or come for one or both paddles.

Camping will be at the Ravenswood Caravan Park, $10 pp per night. Let Richard know that you're coming so that he can arrange sites. (Alternative accommodation can be booked at the Ravenswood HotelÑph 9537 6054Ð for about $75 for two)

Arrive Friday night, cook dinner or have dinner at the pub located on the river (will probably have live music/dancing on later).

Saturday: Beautiful 17 km paddle through native bushland and farmland from Pinjarra to Ravenswood. BBQ dinner and off to the pub for Rock and Roll band.

Sunday: Paddle from Ravenswood to Mandurah. Beautiful river paddle followed by estuary and canals to the Dome CafŽ in the heart of Mandurah

Experience: Must have completed basic skills course or be an experienced flat water paddler. Must be capable of a 17 km paddle. May be paddling against a strong wind for part of the way on Sunday. All flat water.

28 March 2006 – Training Night – Risk Management

A presentation on Risk Management will be held at the Club. 7.30 pm start. This will include completing a Hazard and Risk Assessment (HRA) and then using this to develop a Safety / Risk Reduction Plan and a Pre-Paddle briefing. i.e. The HRA is only the first step, we need to then take actions to ensure Hazards are minimised, Risks are managed or avoided and paddlers safety is maximised.

Come along and learn how to keep yourself and your paddling mates safe.

1 April 2006 An Evening Under the Stars

Join us on a motor boat for the evening. Phil has booked the Underwater Explorers Dive Club boat for the evening. Leaving from Mosman Park, weÕll motor on up to Perth, enjoy the city lights, dinner, a few drinks, some music and great company and motor on back to Mosman Park.
Cost: $25 Dinner provided. BYO drinks, Boat Will Depart at 5.30 PM

1 April 2006 – Saturday Morning Paddles to Point Walter

New member guided paddles will be conducted on the first Saturday morning of each month. A 3 km paddle followed by morning tea/coffee at the Point Walter cafe. Be ready at the club for a 9.30 am departure, return by midday.

1-14 April 06 – Ningaloo Reef

Sea kayaking adventure. Spaces limited.

11 April 2006 – Social Night at the Club – Under the Water

So you've been paddling on top of the Swan for years. Ever wondered what's going on down below.

We're starting up a series of social nights and training nights.

Club member Malcolm X will be presenting a short selection of under river pix, Tues 11th April, 7.30pm Swan Canoe Club…it's a BYO night at this stage…BYO food and drink, hopefully the first in a series of club nights

14-18 April 06 (Easter) – Augusta

Camping at a camp ground on the river, close to town. Modelled on the hugely successful Walpole trip. Turn up, set up camp, do what you like; go paddling, go walking, go to wineries, have fun. (activities are not Pre-organised).

Only a couple of spaces left. If you've said you're coming I'll be after you for money soon.

First Aid Course – 29 April 2006 or 6 May 2006

A one day Senior First Aid Training course is being offered to Club members on both 29th April 2006 and 6 May 2006.

Come along and learn some life saving skills that may one day help to save you, your loved ones, friends and co-workers.

It will be run by club member Keith Emin and his company Revive Emergency Medical Training. For full details follow this link.

Friday Night Paddle Bash In full swing – Club Nights Paddle and BBQ

A fun social night for paddlers of all levels. A time trial paddle followed by a BBQ dinner ($5 – meat and salads provided). BYO drinks.

Social paddlers, don't be put off by the time trial. This is a fun night. Its not about winning a race (at least not for most of us), its about joining in and having some fun. Points are given for beating your own personal best times.

Prizes are awarded at the end of the season. A $50 Mainpeak voucher is given away as a door prize each week.

Be ready to rumble from about 6 pm every Friday.
