The Blackwood trip this weekend has been cancelled due to low water levels.

It a pity, as normally this run is a terrific weekend.

Reports from people who have paddled down there and the rangers are that the levels are akin to January levels.

Looking for volunteers

It would be great to find a couple of volunteers to fill these part-time roles until the AGM in May next year, and perhaps beyond.

If you are interested, please contact Roland for details

Thanks,
Your Committee

Friday Night Paddle Bash Races

OK the Avon is now done and dusted and you all have had a rest or started to think how to remove that winter spread.

Well it’s time to start paddling again so you can look trim for the Christmas feast and not feel guilty about going back for the third helping of pudding.

You don’t have to be a gun to compete in this paddle bash race. It’s about meeting a group of like minded people who enjoy getting their exercise out of the way or underway before the weekend starts.

You don’t have to be a club member or do the nominated distance. It’s for fun as well as fitness. So come along on Friday night. The race starts around 6.20 and then we generally have few a drinks, chips and dips after the race and maybe wheel out the BBQ.
Partners and kids are welcome too.

Jellyfish in Freshwater Bay

The Trust alerted the public in July 2010 after a number of jellyfish, recently identified as Carybdea xaymacana, were seen in the SwanRiver between Preston Point and FremantleHarbour.

On 20 August 2010, a member of the public reported a smaller number of these jellyfish in FreshwaterBay.

While this species is a common ‘stinger’ in waters off Perth and between Geraldton and Busselton, it is unusual for it to extend so far upstream into the SwanRiver.

The Trust reminds the public to avoid contact with these jellyfish as they can cause a nasty sting.

The Department of Health recommends that stings should be treated immediately by flushing with undiluted household vinegar. Do not rub the sting. Stings cause moderate pain for up to two hours, and some swelling and redness. Medical assistance should be sought if shortness of breath is experienced or symptoms persist or worsen. If in doubt seek medical advice.

The Trust encourages the community to report any river issues to the Trust on (08) 9278 0900 during office hours or 0419 192 845 after hours.
An image of the jellyfish is available at www.swanrivertrust.wa.gov.au.

Lost boat near Mosman Bay

A friend of mine managed to keep track of his boat all through the Avon (well, to Bells at least) and then went for a paddle yesterday near Mosmon Bay, fell out and lost it (insert comment about leg leashes here)

So if anyone sees a green finn molokai with Avon stickers 913 on it can they contact andrew.martin666@gmail.com.
