Open Day Success

Invitation to Swan Canoe Club Inaugural Melbourne Cup Paddle and Lunch

Junior Classes this term

Open Day Success
What a fantastic effort from all the Club volunteers to make Sunday’s Open Day such a success! It was great to see so many Swan members coming down to the Club and working together to make it a memorable day despite the forecast bad weather.

Over 70 people came through the Club to try kayaking or to complete dry and wet inductions. The popularity of the sport for all ages was demonstrated with participants ranging from age 7 to seniors. At least 12 new members completed inductions and signed up on the day, so we welcome them to the Club.

Chris Wheeler was the lucky winner of the ‘Introduction to Kayaking’ course, so we look forward to hosting Chris on a course of his choice in the near future.

Thanks go to all the volunteers who did such a great job of making the Clubrooms look spick and span at the Busy Bee the previous weekend (especially Kerry and his crew), and all those who helped Sunday. In particular the unflagging “meet and greet” team, Marion and her stalwart helpers on the sign-up and membership tables, Lisa the dry induction goddess, the ramp crew who so efficiently got people kitted up ready to go on the water, the team of instructors who worked so hard to make sure the paddlers had a good experience and San Luu, Rowan, Robin and other volunteers who kept everyone ‘fed and watered’ or helped out in other roles. Our Junior paddlers also gave up their time to come down and put on a fun and lively demonstration of slalom paddling to inspire and entertain our visitors. Congratulations everyone for presenting the Club in such a professional and welcoming way – it showed a real club spirit.

Your Exclusive Invitation to The Swan Canoe Club Inaugural Melbourne Cup Paddle and Lunch. 4th November 2014

Come and watch the Big Race on our BIG SCREEN and share lunch with members of our Club. Come alone, or organise a table, but it is a great chance to meet other club members who don’t have to go to work on a Tuesday!  Especially invited are all our new members post our Open Day.

The Plan:

Have a pleasant paddle from 9:30 until 10:30 then upstairs for lunch and the race—which starts about 11:30.
Please bring a plate and beverage of your choice, to share for lunch and a few dollars for a sweep.

RSVP essential to membershipswan@gmail.com

PS: If you have a burning desire to help make this inaugural event happen, please contact Marion on 0431962339 immediately.

Junior Classes this term

There are still a few places available for beginner juniors in our slalom class on a Tuesday at 4:15.  We are also looking for 4 or 5 children aged 8-12 to start a guppy program at the same time.  Anyone interested please contact membershipswan@gmail.com immediately.
