Melzi, Nick & Georgia are off to Rio

Congratulation to club members Melzi Wall and Nick Rankin (juniors) and Georgia Rankin (U23) who will represent Australia at the World Junior/U23 Slalom Whitewater Championships in Rio di Janeiro in April – GOOD LUCK! (They are racing at the venue to be used for next year’s Olympics.)

Friday Evening Paddles

Don’t forget our regular Friday evening Paddle Bash at 5:45pm – a race against your best time or just a gentle paddle, then a social drink afterwards.

Mosman Park Fair

We held our first Club promotions stall on Sunday at the Town of Mosman Park’s annual fair. We had a steady flow of visitors and it will lead to a few new members.  It is also keeps us on good terms with our generous Council. Many thanks to the stall volunteers: Nick Seelander, Isabella Choate, Kate and Melzi Wall and Marion Ewing.

Point  Walter Guided Paddle: Saturday 11th April
As Easter falls over the first weekend in April, the usual guided paddle will not take place then. Instead Sarah W will be your guide on Saturday 11th April, down to Chidley point, across to Blackwall reach then backup river, across the sandbar to the cafe for coffee/breakfast and chatter before returning to the club house. RSVP: sarahjwhittaker@hotmail.com

Penguin Island Trip: Saturday 11th April
Good entry level sea kayaking trip, participants must have done an intro to sea kayaking course of have equivalent experience. This paddle, depending on conditions,  sets out from the rockingham side of Point Peron (near the garden island bridge), passing the point, seal Island before making landfall on Penguin island and the returning after lunch (BYO). Please contact Geoff Emery: gemry13@gmail.com for more information or to register for the trip.

Winery Paddle: Sunday 26th April
Fancy a paddle on the upper Swan River with lunch at Sandalfords Winery? Leaving from guildford, heading upstream to the middle swan bridge and stopping into the winery on the way back for lunch and winetasting if you wish (wine tasting may cost extra).
Please RSVP your interest to Sarah W: sarahjwhittaker@hotmail.com by Friday 10th April.
Sarah needs to know numbers so a table can be booked/confirmed. Once numbers are known and a menu confirmed those attending will be requested to pay for the meal in advance (to lock in the booking and attendance on the paddle).

And dont forget the Avon Descent Meeting on 15th April 7pm, at the Clubrooms:
High Tides and the New Ramp

Autumn normally sees our highest tides and last week the new ramp was almost horizontal one evening.  Sand is being lost from under the ramp and so the step down off the ramp at these tides does take some care
