Friday 22 February – Cagey Bees Launch at SCC

Swan Canoe Club is hosting the launch of a newly formed rythmn and blues band. ‘The Cagey Bees’.  The event is free.   The band will be playing from 8pm-10.30pm on the lawn in front of the Club.   The Club will be providing a sausage sizzle and offering a sauage and bun for $3 and soft drinks for $2.  Bring your family and friends, a rug to sit on and drinks to enjoy a fun night.   Please remember to park in the car parks or street park, but not on the lawns, as you may get a parking fine from the City of Mosman.

Paddle Bash Series 1 & 2 Come on, Get involved, Get fit!

Time to dust off the paddles and start working on that flab that has developed around the mid-riff over summer. Swan Friday night Series 1 2013 Paddlebash time trials get underway on 1 March with a 6k race to coincide with the club BBQ. Accumulate points by taking part each week with bonus points for a PB. You’ve only got yourself to beat! That can’t be too hard can it? Series 1 is about getting paddling fit with races ranging from 6, 9, 12k.. Check out the club calendar for the weekly race distances. Everyone gets encouragement. Series 2, which will start in May, is when the tough get going and sees longer races up to 18K to help you prepare for the Avon Descent, if that’s your bent. Even if it’s not, you’ll get lots of tips and advice from seasoned Avon paddlers like Andy Hewlett and Roland Bodt. Or just come along and enjoy the camaraderie and share tall paddling stories over a couple of drinks after the race. Come on, get down there on Fridays! It’s your club.

Going for broke on Broke Island trip.

 GO  FOR  BROKE!!

The annual club Australia Day, Broke Inlet trip is being held near Walpole from Friday 25/1/13 until Monday 28/1/13.

It is often challenging and always interesting.

Last year we had a magnificent camp-site, fantastic sunny weather and blue skies for most of our stay, however the trip home was hastened by a tailwind.

This paddle involves carrying all your camping gear, water and food for the four days and you need to have done at least the Introduction to Sea Kayaking or have equivalent skills.

If you might be interested or would like more information, contact Geoff Emery on 0403 604 082 or gnhemery@bigpond.net.au.

There will be a briefing on Wednesday 16th January at the club, to discuss gear and packing and the plan of action.

However if you are at all uncertain about your ability or the trip, then contact Geoff Emery well beforehand.

The Introduction to Kayaking Certifcate will be awarded on successful completion of the course.
